I’m not one to normally gravitate towards “preppy” or overly “classic” styles—not that there’s nothing wrong with these looks and I envy those that can pull it off and make it work for them like this blogger who does it oh so well. It just doesn’t feel right on me.

Ballet flats tend to fall into that category of preppy and while I would love to pull off a good Audrey Hepburn look and be comfy during my days styling on set or running around NYC prepping for a shoot, I’ve resisted them.

Move over the ballet slipper, the smoking flat is the sophisticed, stylish older cousin that I actually will wear. It’s the new classic shoe which is a slightly more stylish, and definitely more edgy way to rock a flat.

Either way, it’s hard to find a flat that doesn’t give me blisters, kill my arches, and ones I can actually wear all day comfortably while on my feet all day.

Then I discovered Julie Lopez shoes, who started her line after years of foot problems and no solution of comfortable yet stylish kicks. While I don’t have quite the same issues (yet), I’ve been in agony after many times on my feet after long shoot days. Short of sneakers, there hasn’t been a stylish shoe that I don’t want to kick off by the end of the day.

I actually found myself slipping these on instead of my slippers to walk around my apartment. They’re seriously that comfortable.
