It’s hard to think about the word “FALL” when we’re having the most unbearable heat wave in NYC right now, but it really will be here before you know it. We’re technically in the fashion season we call “pre-fall” when you can start shopping for those pieces you will be wearing come fall, but can still get some wear out of them now.
One of my top pre-fall picks is the denim skirt. When I first saw this trend pop up, I thought back to the days I wore them (the 90’s) and how I vowed never to go there again. I’m personally loving the updates to this old look, so look for a more high waisted and pencil/tapered skirt silhouette rather than the thong-revealing waist, unflatteringly straight skirts from back in the day.
This skirt was only $50 at one of my local favorite Brooklyn boutiques and the unraveled hem set it apart from other skirts I had my eye on. The best part about this “trend” is that it’s not really a trend as much as an updated classic. I’ve been wearing it with everything from a tee and Converse for the weekend and a button down with granny heels, another summer trend with staying power into fall.
Speaking of button downs, the white button down is a staple in my closet, but I always look for something that isn’t just a boring oxford. In fact I don’t own one. This fun collared shirt from SheIn won’t break the bank, but would add a big and cheeky impact to an ordinary outfit. Try pairing a fun top like this with your denim skirt to make it work appropriate (depends on your office of course).
My other pre-fall predictions worth getting to wear now AND later:
- The circle or other fun shaped bag
- bold florals for fall
- denimdenimdenim
- focus on collars
- shirts with voluminous sleeves or shoulders (think more avant garde than 80’s!)
- military / navy inspired pieces
- leopard print (when is it not in style though?)
What would you wear now that’s going to be everywhere this fall?
