A Few of My Favorite Things

Twelfth Street by Cynthia Vincent cardigan and Jessica Simpson jacket (both TJMaxx, sweater similar online); Alexander Wang knit top (Barney’s Warehouse Sale); C&C tank top; Levis jeans; Frye boots; vintage Dooney & Burke bag, 1940’s sunnies, and turban headband (similar); c/o Vanessa Mooney rings; etc… coin ring and watchband bracelets; Alex & Ani bangle charm bracelets; all other jewelry, vintage.

Whether I’m styling a photoshoot, a person or myself, I want to get the most for my money. That’s when sales and discount designer stores become necessities to me.

I love to invest in pieces that only get better with time and that will be a staple in my closet for years to come. I’m also a sucker for the latest fashion, so when it comes to those items that don’t last as long, I’m pretty frugal. Of course it’s ideal when you get the latest fashions AND save!

Here are a few of my favorite things to both splurge and save on:

1) These Frye boots have been in my wardrobe rotation for almost 5 years now and they’re only getting better—of course with a few revival trips to the shoe repair. Sometimes it’s worth spending a little extra so you don’t have to buy new pieces every year (with a coupon discount of course).

2) My dark wash Levi’s skinny jeans were not quite a “splurge,” but they’ve lasted when most of my jeans get worn out from the squats and other accidental exercises I tend to do while working on a photoshoot. I recommend at least 1 pair of classic jeans in a dark wash in everyone’s wardrobe. They’re great for both dressing up and dressing down—so you get more bang for your buck!

3) This Twelfth Street by Cynthia Vincent cardigan is a splurge, but it’s one of those great pieces that you can layer with constantly throughout the winter and even the transitional seasons (or a freakishly warm February). When purchasing a sweater, make sure you rub some of the knit with your fingers. If it begins to pill, then steer clear immediately. Just because it’s a $200 sweater, doesn’t mean the quality equals that.

4) A well made classic piece like from one of my favorite designers, Alexander Wang, is usually a good investment. Make sure the quality lives up to the name and it’s not trendy. If it’s something you can wear multiple ways and for seasons to come, then it’s worth it. Don’t buy it because of the label. Do keep in mind that if it does have the label, you can sell it at a consignment shop when you’re sick of it down the road.
