Not So Blank CANVAS

I went to the LANDS’ END CANVAS fall presentation the other night at Public in Nolita and basically made my fall wardrobe shopping list as a result. I’ve been a fan since working on one of Canvas’ first photoshoots three years ago. They’ve been my go-to for good basics like sweaters and tees, not to mention my hubby’s every day wardrobe, as it’s affordable and the cuts are flattering.

This coming season they’ve really pushed the collection to a new place that is a bit more stylish, with attention to detail that separates them from the basics of the Lands’ End mainstay. It was too hard to choose just one item I want, so I’m sharing a sneak-peek of my favorite stand-out pieces.

Get your pen and paper ready for your own shopping list…

The best part of the collection was that the pieces were so versatile for anyone’s wardrobe. As you can tell by the holiday decor, this dress can work for your holiday parties, but you can also rock it all year long. The key-hole detail is a nice touch to add some sexiness to an otherwise conservative outfit.

It’s all in the details. Check out the pailettes on this dress that add a bit of sparkle in a whimsical way.

STYLIST TIP: This is the kind of dress you can go from day (with a sweater or blazer) to night with some heels in one quick move.

This fairisle cardigan is sweet with a bit of festive sequins to dress it up. I love how it’s styled here, mixing textures of a cozy sweater and a tailored dress with pleated details.

Knife pleats—so hot right now. I want to wear this skirt now and into the colder months with some tights and pointy heels. The red and camel colors look so fresh for a modern update to a classic style.

If there was one piece I HAVE to own (yes HAVE to), it is this top. The cheeky print can be worn to the office or dressed down for dinner with friends. Foxy! I could see myself in this, along with the complimentary blue velour pant. Can’t you?

Can you say, my new METROCARD belt? What a stylish way for a quick-draw subway fare on my commute!

Okay, so I know I said earlier if there was one item, but these are such killer boots. From a skinny jean to tights and a skirt, these can be worn with just about any fall outfit. I’d even swap out the laces for a bright color for a fun twist—which brings me to my next favorite item…

These Allen Edmonds for Canvas men’s wing tips caught my eye almost immediately. Maybe it’s the bright yellow laces they swapped out, or maybe it’s the fine quality that would last a lifetime if cared for.

STYLIST TIP: Guys, please please PLEASE invest in at least one nice pair of black and brown dress shoes. Wing tips are a great classic shoe you will own for years or opt for ones with little stitching or flair. When I tell real people or actors to bring shoes for a shoot, I always tell the guys “not too square and not too pointy please.” Nothing’s worse than either of those—no one’s feet are either of those shapes and they are not flattering to a man as a result!

Last but certainly not least, I was so impressed by the little details in all of the men’s clothing. The great tailoring, corduroy elbow patches, collar, and lining details make clothing look so much more expensive than it may be. The man behind the brand and Canvas’ head stylist, Patrice Goulet, wore a gorgeous waxed cotton plaid jacket from the new collection that looked like something that came from Barney’s New York. He popped the collar for me and said, take a look at the great lining under here. Not a single detail went unnoticed this season.

Bravo Canvas! Bravo.

Check out Lands’ End Canvas online and shop the “Classifieds” section—there are items on there for as little as $2! For realzy.
