I just moved back to NY from the South and am looking for a good pair of winter/snow boots. Do you have any suggestions please?

Dear Stacey,

Somehow the words “snow” and “boot” never went fashionably well together. That’s always been an issue for me. While I spent four years at Syracuse University (go Orange!) trudging through snow, I still never managed to overcome this dilemma.

Not to mention, while it was a popular trend, I refused to wear anything that resembled UGGS, especially as a snow boot. They were actually intended for surfers in Australia to keep a steady temperature after a surf. C’mon people!

It was only a couple of years ago that I finally found a snow boot that’s both functional and cute, and more importantly, doesn’t make my feet look like Frankenstein—another fashionable battle I had for years.

The Sorel  winter boot (I’m partial to the “Joan of Arctic” style) has been a perennial favorite of mine and fashionistas alike. It’s waterproof, warm and of course, most importantly not something you would be embarrassed to wear if you’re stuck wearing them all day. There are even more affordable options out there, but these are totally worth the investment because you will wear them for years.

I’ve been kicking myself for years for not purchasing these winter beauties, but they are definitely a splurge in the snow boot world. The good thing about these No. 6 Clogs is that you will want to wear them even on days that aren’t snowing and for all my petite ladies out there, the heel will give you a nice little lift. The leather is waterproof and the inside is lined with shearling to keep you warm.hunter_boot_winter_sock

A cost-effective way to winterize your feet would be to just purchase warm socks that fit for rain boots, that way you can wear them all year round. If you don’t already have a good pair of rain boots, Hunter Wellies are somewhat the standard for rain boots and Hunter has some adorable patterned and cable knit socks that will make your Wellies that you already own insta-winterized.

Now the only problem is getting all of these sent overnight in time for the Thanksgivinukah-storm-of-the-century!
