Last Thursday evening I climbed up five flights of stairs to get to the most gorgeous midtown apartment owned by Christian Siriano and his musician partner, Brad Walsh for Christian’s Resort 2014 presentation, his debut cruise collection. I was out of breath, but luckily handsome models greeted us with champagne and strawberries on our way to view the collection on the models scattered throughout his pad.

I have to admit, I was quite distracted by the amazing decor that I was surrounded by (The lofted skylight ceilings! The giant wood horse head! The Botero in the bedroom!), and the fabulous people including magazine editors, celebrity make up artists and even a very pregnant Anna Chlumsky. I asked Brad if they hired a interior decorator because it seemed every piece was meticulously thought out, and he replied that it was just Christian—and his very expensive taste in antiques.

Just like his home, Siriano’s collection was, as always, meticulously thought out. The casual ready to wear separates took inspiration from the 60’s with bright magentas, violets and yellows, bold stripes, and mod silhouettes. The everlasting trend of the shorts suit was of course a hit among the crowd and even the evening wear echoed its tone.

Much of it was completely wearable by the masses (I have my eye on a bright purple leather button up skirt that felt very retro with a modern twist), so it’s no wonder why Payless teamed up with him to produce some of his shoe designs at an affordable price point. Fingers crossed the zig-zag printed t-straps make it to that production.

What stood out to me were the details that Christian is known for. His couture treatments to fabrics in his evening wear make him stand out from other ready to wear designers and will surely make his flagship on Elizabeth Street in the Lower East Side a cult favorite destination, following suit of his mentors Vivienne Westwood and the late Alexander Lee Mcqueen.
