Another Person's Treasure

It’s difficult for me to post about fashion today when there’s so much devastation going on around me at the moment.

Yesterday was the first time that we felt safe enough to walk all over Brooklyn since the superstorm, Sandy, hit us in NYC. I was able to drop off a few bags of clothing, food, toiletries, and even a phone charger at the Red Hook Initiative.

Being Red Hook was hit hard by the storm, with much of it under water and much of the area impoverished, the residents are desperately in need—so much that had people grabbing from my hands before I could even drop the items on the table.

If you can’t volunteer or donate money and while you’re being tempted by those post-hurricane flash online sales, please consider donating these items:

clothing
coats
bedding/blankets
candles
flashlights
batteries
water
food
socks
towels
printer paper
baby items: diapers etc.
pet food
phone chargers

So glad to know you folks made it through the storm…and what a good thing you’re doing, to donate in Red Hook! Great idea to give a list of places to take all sorts of necessaries, just wish I lived close enough to contribute! All the best as the Big Cleanup gets underway.

  2. Thanks Anita! If you want to contribute, the Red Cross and the Mayor’s Fund need donations, or you can order kits to be sent to those without:
