As you already saw here and here, I recently teamed up with Mavi‘s flagship store in Brooklyn for a competition to find a local artist to give their touch to the side of the store on the intersection of 5th Avenue and Union in the iconic neighborhood of Park Slope.
My college roommate and now Brooklyn neighbor, Kate of the creative DIY blog Brooklyn Belltower, entered the contest upon seeing my post. It’s no wonder why she was selected by a prestigious panel of judges, including the borough president, editor in chief of Brooklyn Magazine and the curator of exhibitions at the Brooklyn Museum.
Kate whipped up this mural based on her artwork in less than a week, in time for the big unveiling at the store’s family-friendly block party this past weekend. She’s still putting the finishing touches on her work this week, so if you’re local, be sure to stop by and check it out. You may even catch her in action getting a perfect splatter of paint on her new Mavi jeans authentically unlike some other jeans are actually being sold right now. Maybe Kate can splatter some paint on your new Mavi jeans to get the same look for less!
Can we talk about how adorable the outfit is that Kate got to pick out from the store? I had no idea that Mavi had cute tops like that in addition to their jeans. I guess I’m going to have to go back to get a top for my overalls!
