Dear Andi at Fall 2012 NYFW

Friend and fellow stylist, Athanasia Nichols and Dear Andi’s Liz Teich in Jason Wu for Target dress (for a limited time at Target); American Apparel tights; Seychelles booties (Gilt Groupe); Rag & Bone tux jacket (sample sale); Vanessa Mooney rings; custom Nona E. Rose belt (similar at Thistle & Clover).

Well I just survived the first day of Fall 2012 Mercedes Benz New York Fashion Week and never thought I’d say this, but if this is what fall will look like, then I’m ready for it!

My first stop was the KAELAN show at Lincoln Center. I admit, I had somewhat of a mental block as to what season I was looking at when I walked into the room. Yes, we’ve had some bizarrely warm weather lately, so maybe the designer, Kaelen Haworth, was going with that trend.

I’d wear pretty much everything in this versatile collection—and in a few months when it gets warmer. At first I thought it was odd that she would present these looks as fall, but in reality the line between seasons are often so blurred—especially with pre-fall and resort collections in tow. Maybe the transitional wear that can be easily layered like this is indeed the way to go.

The asymmetrical hemlines throughout the collection make otherwise classic and simple looks like this a bit more intriguing, in addition to the juxtaposition of masculinity and femininity in most of the looks—complete with bow-ties and lace.

There’s nothing innovative about the suiting looks, but they sure are wearable and well tailored, with the slim carrot shaped cropped leg and lace balancing out the boxier jackets.

Kaelen’s Fall 2012 collection seemed to be inspired by the 20’s, with this drop waist dress as its most obvious nod.

Just when we thought harem pants went away, then there is this…and it makes me want to relive the trend. This is a harem done right—to the point where my friend who joined me at the show had to convince me that those were indeed a harem silohuette when we were across the room.

These two looks are by far the strongest of the show, epitomizing the inspiration of the collection with the tailored lace and 20’s feel. While there were other “cold shoulder” and lace looks, these were the most unexpected.

I’m not sure what I’m more looking forward to at this point—spring or fall, but I’m definitely feeling the looks from Kaelen.

…not all that different from my own personal style at NYFW.

xo Liz
