Whether I’m traveling or prepping for a job all over the city, I like to be comfortable and ready for any occasion with my wardrobe, like that last minute event after I’ve been running around all day.

While exploring “N’awlins,” I noticed that I was always more dressed up than the average person—tourist or local. I figured it was a casual city, so when I tried to get into the fancy-pants-eatery Commander’s Palace for lunch and $0.25 martinis, as per recommendation of Helena from Brooklyn Blonde, I was stunned that we were (politely) turned away thanks to the hubby, who was wearing shorts. Granted he was wearing a J.Crew button down and his nicest pair of linen shorts, but I guess Southern charm still reigns. I can’t argue with that!

STYLIST TIP: If you want to take an outfit from running around all day into a night out, look for some fancier elements like the way these sandals have metal details on them and opt for fabrics that can be dressed up like this gauzy one, which are ready for any occasion, as opposed to jersey cotton. You can also take a bag and tuck in the strap for an instant day time bag turned clutch. Dark denim always takes an outfit up a notch into evening.
