Mixing Prints

While on my way to a shoot the other day, I overheard a Starbucks barista say, “You know it’s almost fall when you are unpacking the stuff for spiced pumpkin…”

Noooooo. Save summer!

That being said, the one thing I’m looking forward to summer nearing its end is the fun fall fashion trends. One of my favorites, is mixing prints. When done right, it can look quite chic.

STYLIST TIP: The trick to mastering mixing prints is to vary the size, but keep it in the same color family. Obviously black and white is the easy way to do it, like I did. If you get a bit bolder, then try in the same color tones (ie jewel tones). When in doubt, the matchy matchy look is actually in. While it’s not always my favorite, wearing a matching printed top and bottom is actually acceptable this season. Think your grandmother’s polyester 70’s suits—but hopefully a bit more chic.
