Son Jung Wan is known for feminine separates and dresses in luxurious fabrics, but this collection, she seemed to want to be known for her beautifully tailored coats in experimental fabrics and shapes, including a mix of fur, leather and knits. Inspired by the way Rothko painted colors to convey emotions, she created a moody yet futuristic designs for fall 2014. A couple of colorful sequined evening wear pieces seemed out of place with the rich textures and colors that preceded, but were nonetheless beautiful. The menswear may have been over the top for the average dude, though still refreshing to see something a bit different in that category. Metallics were the common thread throughout, down to the gold lipstick and graphic chopstick style pins through messy buns—a nod to the designer’s Korean roots.
