As a precursor to New York Fashion Week’s women’s ready-to-wear collections, the men’s presentations featuring designers such as David Hart, Lucio Castro, Gents, Stephen F., Original Penguin, Bespoken, Carlos Campos, Antonio Azzuolo, J. Lindberg, and W.R.K. were filled with a plethora of beach-y nods to retro eras and effortless street style ensembles. Think Palm Springs and Miami—possibly foreshadowing what’s to come this week for the women’s collections.
The set up for each presentation was simple with the bright colored clothing pop against the backgrounds. Tones such as sea foam, baby blue, dusty pink, navy, and army green, as well as classic geometric prints like argyle and gingham were a common theme of the collections.
The highlights included David Hart’s all-over atomic suit with shorts—the ultimate 1970s vibe. Standout accessories featured weekender bags, backpacks, low-top sneakers, pocket squares, loafers, fedoras and Teva sandals (yes, first the Birkenstock, now the Teva is back!). MOSCOT also created an exclusive line of sunglasses with a retro vibe for the show.
What can we expect for menswear trends this season? We can anticipate homage to the 1950s and 1970s, with a modern urban feel.
