Vintage Shop Like A Pro

DSC_0276

I was pleasantly surprised to fall in love with New Orleans as much as I did.

My home of NYC always inspires me, but everything about the colors, the music and the food (well, what I could eat there…sadly no shellfish for this girl!) in NOLA sparked my creative juices.

Of course, being a stylist, my favorite part of the experience was all of the amazing vintage and antique shops. Can you believe I scored this Marni top for only $20??

top: vintage Marni / shorts: Levi’s / shoes: Franco Sarto (from TJMaxx, c/o Jordan Reid of Ramshackle Glam, who gave them to me after I styled her in a shoot…how sweet!) / bag: Annabel Ingall for Anthropologie / sunglasses: Warby Parker / bracelets from top to bottom: etc…, Hathamade, Baublebar

A huge thank you to my friend, NOLA native and fellow stylist, Allison St. Germain, for directing me to all of her great vintage shopping spots.

STYLIST TIPS (on vintage shopping):
-Forget about the name brand for a moment. Do you still love the piece if there wasn’t a label?
-Look for quality. If it’s labeled a designer piece but the quality isn’t there, it could be a fake.
-If it doesn’t fit quite right, it could be worth the purchase if you take it to a tailor. Factor in that cost into your purchase.

-Inspect the item for wear and stains. Pills in a sweater can be shaved, but some damage cannot be undone.
-If you don’t feel comfortable wearing something that’s pre-owned, don’t forget the power of dry-cleaning or what I personally like to use, Dryel.
