This weather we’ve been having in the Northeast has been bananas lately. It’s May and I was scraping frost off my car in the morning, but then it got up to 70 degrees. I went from 85 and sunny during my trip to New Orleans a couple of weeks ago, then back to chilly Brooklyn before heading up to even colder Boston for a couple of weeks to style a big campaign shoot. What gives Mother Nature? How’s a girl to dress for this sort of thing?

Well, I guess ready for anything is the answer.

In between my whirlwind of trips, I made a pit stop in Philly for a wedding one weekend and didn’t quite know how to dress for when I wasn’t in black tie attire. My mind was still in the Southern heat, but my body was shivering because it still didn’t feel totally like spring outside. I also needed to pack quickly and efficiently because after all of my traveling, I didn’t want to have to think about packing for just one night. Without knowing what we were doing the rest of our weekend trip, I decided to bring just great basics that I could dress up or down.

I partnered with Banana Republic this season and luckily their basics for spring are beyond basic and are quite versatile. This gorgeous windowpane Merino wool sweater is the perfect piece to wear for that in-between weather. I love that it’s cozy for those chilly days/nights, but still light enough to pass for spring. It’s also classic enough that it will be a perennial piece in my closet, not to mention through all seasons, not just this one. The detail of the v-neck in both the front AND the back make it less serious and a bit more sexy than a typical sweater.

Even though it hadn’t been warm yet, I couldn’t wait to break out these Banana Republic heels because they’re so on trend with the lace-up detail and just seem to elevate any look—even the most casual one.

While the sweater and my favorite heels of the season can be a bit more polished, I decided to dress it down with a good boyfriend jean, that way I was ready for everything from the after party to brunch the next day.
