So remember how I told you about the off-the-shoulder trend being the equivalent to the blockbuster summer flick right now? Well meet it’s slightly shyer cousin, the cold shoulder. We fashion industry folk call a top that when there’s just a cut-out for your shoulder, like it’s cold or something. Yes, it’s also not a new concept, but it’s a fabulous way to show off a bit of skin, but still be demure enough—and bonus for those ladies that don’t love to show off their upper arms. I’ve been doing the heavier weights in barre class to get my arms summer ready, but there’s still nothing more universally flattering this look.
I’m totally obsessed with this Tanya Taylor silk dress which has an elegant take on the trend. I’d say the hefty price-tag is totally worth it because I can’t tell you how many people complimented me on it while I work it to a fitting during the day and a Condé Nast party at night. Though if you’re afraid of commitment, you can just rent it on Rent the Runway Unlimited. I continued my subscription after I got to try it out and it’s such a great way to get those special pieces that you’ll definitely get stopped with “where did you get that?” Case it point, the other day when someone chased me down the street to ask me where my top was from (Suno from RTR Unlimited thankyouverymuch).
Speaking of compliments, I’ve been getting SO many compliments on this new bag of mine by Joanna Maxham. It’s kind of the perfect summer bag: goes with everything, can throw it over your shoulder and go from work to an alfresco dinner. I also got to wear it to the Governor’s Ball festival and it held everything I needed for the day (including unfortunately an umbrella that I totally forgot to bring). Nothing like finding great cost-per-wear deals.
