Here come the winter doldrums when it comes to fashion. How depressing is it to dress just to combat the elements like snow and freezing cold temperatures and not for fun. I find myself in my closet each morning, staring at my sweaters, deciding which form of layering will keep me the warmest today. It’s hard not to reach for the same ol’ outfit throughout all of winter.

It’s been getting quite chilly in NYC lately and because I’m often running around prepping for styling jobs all day, I need to be comfortable. I can’t dress TOO warm because then I’ll overheat on the subway, at stores, and come into showrooms like a sweaty mess, but if I don’t dress heavy enough, I risk shivering all day. What’s this Goldilocks to do?

I recently discovered Uniqlo‘s heat tech line, after hearing all of the fuss about it last year. Garments with Japanese technology that keep in your body heat without overheating? It sounded too good to be true. I took my chances on a few long sleeve tops to layer under my sweaters, as well as a pair of tights. For $12 bucks or so a pop, it wasn’t a huge investment.

The tights are surprisingly warm—and even got me through the chilliest New Years Eve in years. They’re also great for layering under your jeans, especially all of those airy distressed ones we all stocked up on this fall. Now you can stay fashionably warm. You’re welcome!
