I apologize for the lack of posts lately, but I attempted to take a vacation after a stretch of non-stop styling work for the past few months. We could have escaped to somewhere on a beach and we thought about exploring somewhere like Nashville, but my heart keeps pulling me back to one of my favorite cities in the world, New Orleans.

It happened to also be Jazz Fest while visiting, so it added a whole new experience to our trip. We also explored with a family friend who’s a local to the city and showed us “the real NOLA,” including being second line (marching behind a band down the streets) in an impromptu parade in memory of Prince, traveling to the North Shore and hiking through the Bayou swamps, and even attending an experimental jazz show at the former US Mint with local jazz legend, Kidd Jordan.

One of the things that I regretted not doing while here previously, was having brunch at the famous Commander’s Palace. Last time the hubby was wearing shorts, so they turned us away with their strict old fashioned Nola style dress code, which is surprising in the land of both natives and tourists wearing cargo shorts and tie dye t-shirts.

This time, we suited up. He wore a button down and dress pants (sans jacket, as it was 85 degrees and jackets are only required for dinner) and I wore this Reformation dress that is so perfectly me that my assistant Elenita commented recently, don’t you already have a dress like that? I also wore my new evil eye bracelets, gifted to me on a recent shoot for Alex and Ani that I styled, that feel in line with this spiritual voodoo town.

We enjoyed sitting in the back garden room and eating the food that made Emeril famous, along with 25 cent martinis. While it’s touristy, and the hubby is convinced we were seated next to the Spin Doctors, it’s a “Nawlins” experience not to be missed.

Stay tuned for more of my travels to New Orleans and where to go here.
