Frequently Asked Questions
How is The Closet Refresh® method different from a typical capsule wardrobe ideas?
Typical capsule wardrobe ideas often start with a formula: a limited number of pieces, a neutral color palette, and a standard list of “must-have” basics. The Closet Refresh® method is tailored to your lifestyle, personal style type, and overall needs.
Instead of telling you to build the same capsule wardrobe as everyone else, The Closet Refresh® starts with your closet and style goals. Liz Teich helps you evaluate what you already own, decide what to keep, purge, tailor, repair, or rework, and find new ways to style pieces that may have been sitting unworn.
A capsule wardrobe can be helpful, but The Closet Refresh® is not about limiting your style or following a generic checklist. It is about creating a wardrobe that feels functional, polished, and true to you.
How does working with a personal stylist virtually actually work?
Most clients begin with The Closet Refresh®, which can be done virtually or in person. The process starts with a consultation to understand your lifestyle, wardrobe needs, style goals, and what is currently not working in your closet. During the virtual closet edit, you and your stylist review your wardrobe through video and conversation. We are right there with you on Zoom, walking through it all.
I don't even know what my style is anymore. How do I find my style?
We get it! Personal style often shifts after career changes, motherhood, body changes, or simply moving into a new season of life.
A great place to start is The New York Stylist’s personal style quiz. The quiz helps you identify your top style types, so you can begin to understand the pieces, silhouettes, colors, and styling choices you are naturally drawn to.
From there, The Closet Refresh® helps you apply those insights to your actual wardrobe. Liz Teich helps you evaluate what still feels aligned, what no longer works, what can be restyled, and what may be missing.
Where do you go for personal style inspiration?
I happen to have a slight advantage here with over 20+ years in the fashion industry. So, I often draw from this experience. That said, I love to find personal style inspiration from street style, Pinterest, Instagram, magazines, films, travel, interiors, vintage fashion, art, and people whose style feels effortless and iconic.
A good place to start is by saving outfits, colors, silhouettes, textures, and styling details you love. Then, look for patterns. Are you drawn to relaxed tailoring, polished basics, bold accessories, feminine details, minimal outfits, vintage-inspired pieces, or unexpected color combinations?
What should I expect from a personal stylist session?
A personal stylist session with The New York Stylist is designed to help you understand your wardrobe, define your personal style, and get dressed with more ease. Every client begins with The Closet Refresh®, which can be done virtually or in person.
